The Lyrical

Today I shall post my lyrical line line drawing. This was a tad bit easier than the mechanical line drawing, due to the lack of....straight lines?
But anyways it did also take 15+ sketches to figure out the exact curve, pattern, etc.
Art is a lot more difficult than I had thought.

but on a side note, at least I get to sit in this class!
My other art class yesterday consisted of my teacher setting up a still life outside and us running back and forth like gerbils drawing small bits and pieces as long as our memory did allow.
And yes, I took the "In front of you" still life for granted.

The mechanical

Yes, I know it may seem a bit excessive posting twice in one day, but I feel like I'd better get some things out there while I can!
Our first beginner lessons have been on the line. The shape, curve, density, and basically anything and everything else. Our first major grade is to create four drawings that display four different kinds of lines: mechanical, lyrical, aggressive, and calligraphic.
Here is the first picture. The mechanical line.
You may be in awe of this pristine work of art. You should be. I only worked three hours on it. Think I'm exaggerating? Wait till you see my aggressive line drawing. That's where I took out my frustration. This bad boy isn't the first sketch. In fact, I probably drew about ten+ rough drafts trying to measure the lines to the sixteenth of an inch. Each lovely line is coated twice so that no line/marker marks can be seen. Yes, permanent marker two hours in a row isn't healthy(i took breaks).
But alas! I finally finished it.
so here it is.
for you to enjoy.

A New Start--->with Art

Hello people who probably never follow me anymore because I am severely lacking in posts.
Like, my last post was in 2008. Wow.
I suck.
But wait!
Due to my college aptitude for having to whip things out(and a art blog i just found and am very envious of) i am starting afresh! I shall be posting everything I do in college, on the side, and maybe a few oldies until I can get the ball rolling.
So here's some starters from the past year before I whip out the noobs.

This here was my summer love. My charcoal lover. I loved working on this :) This was a caricature for my friend Zach, who happens to have the longest legs ever!
For my graduation, I made this little dude to set on my marvelously decorated table(courtesy of Genny Holmes)
Another collage, made for my friend Daniel who likes music and has a liking for strange words.

And at last, my award winner. This tall drink of water(or should I say frozen water?) won me two blue ribbons at various contests and a hefty sum of money. Gotta love winning money.

Anyways, I shall be posting all sorts of nifty sketches and such as soon as I can. And hopefully this time, I'll be able to be fairly regular!

well

My artness has been somewhat delayed from the last post but as I was looking through I decided to post a pic to show that i have made some progress. The picture is from my phone so the quality isn't the best.

It's all the rage!!!

A new fad that has come through the art industry recently are artist trading cards. Just a simple 2 1/2 x 3 1/2 sheet of white paper, with whatever you desire stuck, painted, pressed, or drawn on it. There are large conventions entirely devoted to trading these trading cards around the world. My art teacher, not to be left out, has commissioned all of her art students to paint, draw, and create the best trading cards we can think of. I have started quite a collection of the trading cards and felt compelled to make more after seeing how horrible my previous ones were. This trading card was created somewhere in the wee hours of the morning. I don't even know what kind of cat it is, thanks to my poor memory. I used watercolor pencils and watercolors on this guy, with the spectacular help of my white gel pen for his whiskers and eyes.

And so it begins

Every year I make the conquest to enter the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo Art Contest. Each year I find a picture I like (or in the case of this year, have the picture picked out for me). The past years I have done my work in the best medium there is: pencil. But this year my teacher wanted me to try oils because my pencil drawings were, shall we say, shunned for the "brighter" pictures. So I shall take you step by step on my climactic journey. Starting with the very first sketch. This sketch is to pretty much be my guideline when painting. This is an unfinished sketch. I have already redrawn the horses legs and the cowboy quite a few times.
