well

My artness has been somewhat delayed from the last post but as I was looking through I decided to post a pic to show that i have made some progress. The picture is from my phone so the quality isn't the best.

It's all the rage!!!

A new fad that has come through the art industry recently are artist trading cards. Just a simple 2 1/2 x 3 1/2 sheet of white paper, with whatever you desire stuck, painted, pressed, or drawn on it. There are large conventions entirely devoted to trading these trading cards around the world. My art teacher, not to be left out, has commissioned all of her art students to paint, draw, and create the best trading cards we can think of. I have started quite a collection of the trading cards and felt compelled to make more after seeing how horrible my previous ones were. This trading card was created somewhere in the wee hours of the morning. I don't even know what kind of cat it is, thanks to my poor memory. I used watercolor pencils and watercolors on this guy, with the spectacular help of my white gel pen for his whiskers and eyes.

And so it begins

Every year I make the conquest to enter the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo Art Contest. Each year I find a picture I like (or in the case of this year, have the picture picked out for me). The past years I have done my work in the best medium there is: pencil. But this year my teacher wanted me to try oils because my pencil drawings were, shall we say, shunned for the "brighter" pictures. So I shall take you step by step on my climactic journey. Starting with the very first sketch. This sketch is to pretty much be my guideline when painting. This is an unfinished sketch. I have already redrawn the horses legs and the cowboy quite a few times.

flowers anyone?

My latest project has been oil painting. My teacher decided that each of her students should at least try the medium. My picture of choice was a red flower. I took this picture at the botanic gardens. It's my first oil painting and I am very proud of it. Here are some pictures:

and here is the picture i based it off of. If anyone has any pictures they would like painted in oil, i have the whole summer to do them (:
